Will MS Dhoni Play Against SRH? CSK Legend Nears Return After Injury Recovery
CSK legend continues rehab from calf injury; potential return expected later in the season
New Delhi, April 18: The anticipation around MS Dhoni’s return in IPL 2026 continues, but the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon is unlikely to feature in today’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Despite recently being seen in the nets striking the ball fluently, Dhoni is still recovering from a calf strain and is not expected to be risked for the match. Team sources indicate that although his initial recovery timeline has concluded, the franchise is prioritizing full fitness before bringing him back into the playing XI.
Dhoni sustained the injury during a practice session ahead of the tournament, ruling him out of the early phase of the season. While his rehabilitation is progressing well, CSK management remains cautious to avoid any setbacks.
A return, however, appears imminent. Dhoni could be back for the upcoming fixture against Mumbai Indians on April 23 at Wankhede Stadium or the home game against Gujarat Titans on April 26 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Statistically, Dhoni remains one of the IPL’s most consistent performers. In 278 matches, he has accumulated 5,439 runs at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 137.45, including 24 half-centuries. He currently stands among the top run-scorers in IPL history.
Last season, despite CSK’s struggles, Dhoni scored 196 runs in 13 innings, maintaining a strike rate above 135. He continues to be a key figure in the squad, retained for ₹4 crore ahead of IPL 2025, with the contract extending into the 2026 season.
Meanwhile, CSK will aim to secure their third consecutive win, while SRH look to capitalize on home advantage in Hyderabad.
