Kangana Ranaut Defends Women’s Reservation Bill, Calls Delimitation a ‘Constitutional Necessity’
Kangana Ranaut asserts that linking the Women’s Reservation Bill with delimitation is essential for fair representation, while countering opposition concerns over timing and implementation.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut strongly backed the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha during a special session, emphasizing the importance of linking the legislation with the delimitation exercise. She described the move as a “constitutional necessity,” asserting that redrawing constituencies is essential to ensure fair and effective political representation for women.
Addressing concerns raised by Opposition leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi and members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Ranaut dismissed allegations that the Bill was being rushed or that its implementation timeline lacked clarity. She maintained that the government’s approach reflects a sense of urgency in delivering long-pending representation for women in legislative bodies.
Ranaut argued that delimitation is a critical structural step required to align population changes with constituency boundaries, thereby enabling equitable distribution of reserved seats. Without such an exercise, she suggested, the objective of meaningful representation could be compromised.
The BJP MP further criticized Opposition parties for what she termed as “unnecessary resistance,” stating that objections raised were politically motivated rather than rooted in constitutional concerns. She reiterated that the Bill represents a transformative reform aimed at empowering women and strengthening democratic inclusivity.
The debate over the Women’s Reservation Bill continues to intensify, with the government positioning it as a landmark step toward gender equality, while the Opposition demands greater clarity on its execution and timing.
