Himanta Biswa Sarma Targets Mamata Banerjee Over Border Infiltration in West Bengal

In a sharp political attack during a visit to Vaishnabnagar in West Bengal, Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a strong critique of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the issue of alleged infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border.

Addressing a public gathering, Sarma accused the state government of deliberately avoiding cooperation with the Border Security Force (BSF) in strengthening border fencing. He alleged that land is not being provided for fencing projects, which, according to him, allows illegal infiltrators to enter the state more easily.

The Assam Chief Minister went further, claiming that the ruling Trinamool Congress benefits politically from such infiltration. In a controversial remark, he suggested that the state leadership prioritizes these alleged infiltrators over its own citizens.

Sarma also asserted that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in West Bengal, it would take strict measures to secure the border. He promised advanced fencing systems that would prevent illegal crossings, even warning of electrified barriers to deter intruders.

The remarks have added fuel to the already heated political climate in West Bengal, where border security and migration remain sensitive and polarizing issues. The Trinamool Congress has repeatedly denied such allegations in the past, maintaining that law and order and border-related matters fall under the jurisdiction of the central government.

As political rhetoric intensifies ahead of upcoming electoral battles, the issue of border security is once again taking center stage, with both sides trading accusations and counterclaims.
