USA Beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-0 to Reach FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16

The United States booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 with a determined 2-0 victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina despite finishing the match with 10 men.

Forward Folarin Balogun continued his impressive World Cup form by scoring his third goal of the tournament in the first half, giving the Americans an early advantage. The U.S. dominated much of the opening 45 minutes, with Balogun creating several dangerous opportunities that kept Bosnia's defence under constant pressure.

The match took a dramatic turn in the 64th minute when Balogun received a straight red card after a challenge on Tarik Muharemovic, forcing the United States to play the remainder of the game a man down.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Americans remained composed and doubled their lead in the 82nd minute. Midfielder Malik Tillman curled a superb free-kick from just outside the penalty area, with the ball taking a slight touch off goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj before finding the back of the net.

The victory marks only the second knockout-stage win in United States World Cup history. Their previous triumph came in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, when they defeated Mexico in the Round of 16 after reaching the semifinals in the inaugural 1930 World Cup.

With the win, the United States advance to the Round of 16, where they will face Belgium in Seattle. Playing on home soil in the expanded 2026 tournament, the Americans will now look to continue their impressive run and push deeper into the competition.
