Justin Greaves Creates Test History with Unprecedented Five Consecutive Wicket Maidens

West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves etched his name into the history books by becoming the first bowler in Test cricket to deliver five consecutive wicket maidens, achieving the remarkable feat during the first ICC World Test Championship Test against Pakistan in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Greaves produced a sensational spell across the lunch break on Day 3, claiming his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket while conceding no runs during those five wicket-taking overs. His achievement surpassed the previous benchmark of four consecutive wicket maidens, set by former England pacer Stuart Broad against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2016.

Pakistan appeared to be in control at 244/3, with Shan Masood bringing up a well-crafted century. However, Greaves turned the match on its head by dismissing Masood before removing Aamer Jamal, Ali Usman, Mohammad Rizwan, and Mohammad Abbas in successive wicket maidens. Pakistan eventually collapsed from a commanding position to be bowled out for 282, in reply to the West Indies' first-innings total of 311.

Speaking after his historic spell, Greaves credited captain Roston Chase for encouraging him to stay disciplined and bowl in the right areas.

"The captain told me to stay disciplined and keep hitting good areas. The ball was moving around, and thankfully I got the rewards. I'm delighted to claim my first five-wicket haul in Test cricket, but there's still plenty of work left in the match," Greaves said.

Despite Pakistan's collapse, the visitors fought back late in the day, reducing the West Indies to 126/7, leaving the hosts with an overall lead of 155 runs heading into Day 4.

The two-match Test series continues with the second Test scheduled from August 2 to August 6 in Port of Spain.
