India Crush Afghanistan by an Innings and 300 Runs as Manav Suthar Shines on Dream Test Debut

India delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Monday. The emphatic win marked India’s biggest victory in Test cricket history, surpassing their previous best of an innings and 272 runs against the West Indies in 2018.

The star of the match was 23-year-old debutant left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who announced his arrival on the international stage with a memorable performance. The Rajasthan spinner claimed six wickets for 33 runs in Afghanistan’s first innings and added two more in the second, finishing with match figures of 8/54.

India had taken complete control of the contest after posting a mammoth 564/8 declared in their first innings. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a commanding 126, while KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Rishabh Pant, and Washington Sundar made valuable contributions to pile pressure on the visitors.

Afghanistan struggled to cope with India’s bowling attack and were bowled out for 152 in their first innings, trailing by 412 runs. Asked to follow on, the visitors showed brief resistance but eventually collapsed for 112 in the second innings.

Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav played supporting roles with the ball, helping India wrap up the contest midway through Day 3. Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah attempted to steady the innings, but India’s disciplined spin attack proved too strong.

The match also highlighted India’s growing spin depth, with Suthar’s impressive control, turn, and temperament sparking discussions about his long-term future in the Test setup. With senior spinner Ravindra Jadeja nearing the later stages of his red-ball career, Suthar’s breakthrough performance could not have come at a better time for Indian cricket.
