The Election Commission has begun the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Uttarakhand from Monday, June 8, with preparations completed for the statewide voter verification drive. Under the campaign, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit homes to distribute enumeration forms to voters.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttarakhand, Dr. BVRC Purushottam, all 11,733 BLOs across the state have been equipped with the required forms. Voters have been urged to cooperate with booth-level officials during the month-long revision exercise, which will continue until July 7. Citizens may also use the “Book a Call” facility to contact BLOs if required.

As part of the process, voter data collected through enumeration forms will be digitized through the BLO app. The Election Commission stated that discrepancies in voter information could lead to further verification.

Officials said voters whose information is unavailable or does not match the electoral database from 2003 may receive notices from the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). Those receiving notices will be required to submit valid documents proving citizenship, date of birth, and place of birth.

The guidelines classify document requirements into three categories based on date of birth. Individuals born before July 1, 1987, will need to submit one valid document proving their date and place of birth. Those born between July 1, 1987, and December 2, 2004, must provide documents for themselves as well as either parent. Voters born after December 2, 2004, will need to provide supporting documents for themselves and both parents.

If either parent is not an Indian citizen, copies of valid passports and visas at the time of the voter’s birth will also be required.

The revision exercise is aimed at ensuring the accuracy and authenticity of the electoral rolls in Uttarakhand ahead of future elections.
