GT’s Playoff Roar! Gujarat Titans Hammer CSK by 89 Runs, End Chennai’s IPL 2026 Journey
Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill headline a batting blitz before Mohammed Siraj’s fiery spell crushes CSK’s playoff hopes in a one-sided contest.
The Gujarat Titans (GT) produced a near-perfect performance to overpower Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a massive 89 runs in Match 66 of IPL 2026, strengthening their push for a top-two finish while officially knocking Chennai out of the playoff race.
Batting first at the Narendra Modi Stadium, GT unleashed a batting storm to pile up a daunting 229/4. The foundation was laid by an exceptional 125-run opening partnership between Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill, who dominated CSK’s bowling attack from the start.
Sudharsan continued his sensational run with a classy 84 off 53 balls, registering his fifth consecutive half-century, while Gill lit up the innings with a fluent 64 off 37 deliveries. Just when CSK looked for a breather, Jos Buttler delivered the knockout punch with an unbeaten 57 off 27 balls, powering Gujarat to a mammoth total.
Chasing 230, Chennai’s hopes were shattered almost instantly as Mohammed Siraj struck with the very first ball, dismissing Sanju Samson for a duck. Siraj continued his destruction by removing Ruturaj Gaikwad soon after, leaving CSK reeling in the powerplay.
The collapse only worsened as Chennai lost wickets in clusters and slipped to 72/5, with poor running between the wickets adding to their misery. Despite Shivam Dube’s resistance, the Super Kings never truly looked in the hunt. Gujarat’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure before Kagiso Rabada finished the job, bowling CSK out for 140.
The emphatic win gives Gujarat Titans valuable momentum heading into the playoffs, while Chennai Super Kings’ disappointing campaign comes to a crushing end.
