Yusuf Pathan Praises BJP’s Stronghold in Gujarat, Calls It “Unshakeable for Decades”

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Yusuf Pathan has sparked political debate after praising the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) long-standing dominance in Gujarat, stating that the party is unlikely to be unseated for decades.

Speaking after casting his vote in the state’s local body elections on Sunday, Pathan said that the BJP’s strong governance and public support make it a formidable force. “For the next 40–50 years, it will be extremely difficult to remove BJP from power in Gujarat. Facts are facts—people support the party that works for them,” he remarked.

Pathan emphasized that voters in Gujarat prioritize development, which has helped the BJP maintain its grip on power. “People here are aware of the development work. They vote for progress, and that is why BJP continues to win,” he added.

Despite his remarks, the TMC leader reaffirmed his party’s strength in West Bengal. He stated that the people of Bengal continue to support the Trinamool Congress, highlighting a contrasting political landscape between the two states.

He also commented on voter turnout trends in Bengal, noting that the removal of approximately 9.1–9.2 million voters from electoral rolls had influenced turnout percentages. “Even if those voters were included, turnout would still hover around 80–81%. There is nothing unusual about it,” he said.

Pathan further underlined the importance of voting, calling it a fundamental democratic right that must be exercised wisely.

Notably, Gujarat witnessed polling across 15 municipal corporations, including major cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, along with numerous municipalities and panchayats. The counting of votes is scheduled for April 28.
