Mamata Banerjee Alleges Bias and Intimidation During Bengal Polls

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised serious concerns over the conduct of polling in the state, alleging bias and intimidation during the ongoing elections.

Addressing the media, Banerjee—who is also contesting from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency as a candidate of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC)—claimed that election observers deployed from outside the state are acting in line with the interests of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

She alleged that TMC campaign posters have been removed in several areas, questioning the fairness of the electoral process. “So many observers have come from outside, and they are doing exactly what the BJP says. Look around—our posters have been taken down. Is this how elections are conducted?” she said.

Banerjee further emphasized that voting should be determined solely by the electorate, not influenced by police or security personnel. She also claimed that newly deployed personnel are acting arbitrarily and creating an atmosphere of fear.

According to her, such actions amount to intimidation and undermine democratic norms. “Votes should be cast by voters, not by police or security forces,” she asserted, accusing authorities of spreading fear among the public.

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, where allegations and counter-allegations between major parties continue to dominate the election narrative.
