Yogi Government Announces Wage Hike, Plans Wage Board Formation After Worker Protests in Noida

New Delhi | April 15, 2026 : The Government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has initiated major steps to defuse tensions following worker protests in Noida. The unrest, which had escalated in recent days, prompted the state administration to take swift action aimed at addressing the concerns of labourers.

In response, the government constituted a high-powered committee to engage with the issue and recommend immediate solutions. Acting on the committee’s recommendations, authorities announced an interim wage increase for workers on Monday night in an effort to calm the situation and restore normalcy.

In a significant policy move, the state government has also decided to set up a wage board, marking a major development in labour welfare reforms. Notably, no such board or pay commission has been constituted in Uttar Pradesh since 2014. With this decision, the Yogi government is set to revive the mechanism after nearly 12 years.

Officials indicated that the formal announcement regarding the constitution of the wage board is expected next month, in May 2026. The board is likely to play a key role in determining fair wage structures and addressing long-standing demands of workers across sectors.

The move is being seen as a strategic effort by the state government to balance industrial stability with worker welfare, while ensuring that economic activities in key hubs like Noida remain uninterrupted.
