Yogi Adityanath Targets TMC Over Language and Culture in Bengal Rally
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister sparks political debate with remarks on language identity during Nandakumar rally
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) while addressing a public rally in Nandakumar, West Bengal, intensifying the political rhetoric ahead of the state’s electoral battle.
During his speech, Adityanath criticized the TMC government over alleged remarks related to language promotion in the state. Referring to statements attributed to the Mayor of Kolkata, he claimed that there were efforts to promote Urdu among a significant section of the population.
In a strongly worded response, Adityanath asserted that Bengal’s cultural and linguistic identity cannot be altered. He emphasized that Bengali remains the core language of the state and declared that “no one can tamper with Bengal’s culture.” He further added that only Bengali would be spoken in Bengal and warned against what he termed as “fanaticism” taking root in the region.
The remarks have added fuel to the already heated political environment in West Bengal, where issues of identity, language, and culture often play a central role in electoral narratives. The TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has yet to issue a detailed response, but such statements are expected to trigger strong political reactions.
Political analysts view this development as part of a broader strategy by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to consolidate support by focusing on cultural and regional identity issues in the state. With elections approaching, the exchange of sharp rhetoric between rival parties is likely to intensify further.
