West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026: Preparations Complete for Second Phase

With the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 set for April 29, the Election Commission of India has confirmed that all preparations are in place. Polling parties have already begun moving toward their designated polling stations, including remote riverine regions like Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district.

Campaigning for this phase concluded on April 27, with political parties making their final appeals to voters. Security arrangements have been significantly strengthened, with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) conducting flag marches and outreach activities to build voter confidence and maintain peace in sensitive areas.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the people of the state, expressing optimism about political change and stating that his party aims to transform challenges into opportunities in West Bengal.

The first phase of polling, held on April 23 across 152 constituencies, witnessed an impressive voter turnout of around 93%, reflecting strong public participation in the democratic process. The elections are being conducted for all 294 seats of the state assembly.

Meanwhile, political tensions remain high, with leaders trading sharp remarks. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju claimed there is growing support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging dissatisfaction with the current administration.

According to past data, incidents of election-related violence have been a concern in the state, prompting authorities to take extra precautions this time. The Election Commission has emphasized its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful polling.

Vote counting for all phases is scheduled to take place on May 4, when the final results will determine the political future of the state.
