Vande Mataram Made Mandatory in All Madrasas Across West Bengal
New directive mandates the national song during morning prayers before classes begin in all government and private madrasas
New Delhi: The West Bengal government has announced that singing Vande Mataram will now be mandatory in all madrasas across the state before classes begin. The order has been issued by the Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department, making it compulsory for institutions to follow the revised prayer protocol.
Under the new directive, Vande Mataram will be sung during morning assembly prayers in all government model madrasas (English medium), aided, recognized, and unaided madrasas across West Bengal. The move replaces previous practices and introduces a uniform rule for all madrasa institutions in the state.
Officials stated that the decision is aimed at promoting patriotism and maintaining consistency in school prayer assemblies. The order will be applicable across all categories of madrasas operating under the state’s madrasa education framework.
The move is expected to trigger political discussions, with supporters calling it a step toward national unity, while critics may raise concerns over its implementation in minority educational institutions.
