Swati Maliwal Joins BJP, Praises PM Narendra Modi and Launches Sharp Attack on Arvind Kejriwal
Former AAP Rajya Sabha MP accuses Kejriwal of silencing her in Parliament and calls him anti-women and a symbol of corruption
Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ending her nearly two-decade-long association with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Announcing her decision on Saturday, Maliwal said she joined the BJP out of belief in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, not under any pressure.
Her move comes shortly after other AAP leaders, including Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, and Ashok Mittal, also switched to the BJP, signaling a major political shake-up within the party.
After joining the BJP, Maliwal launched a scathing attack on AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. She alleged that despite standing by him since 2006, she was mistreated and even physically assaulted by someone within his circle. She further claimed that when she raised her voice, she was threatened and pressured to withdraw her FIR.
Maliwal also accused Kejriwal of being “anti-women” and stated that she was not allowed to speak even once in Parliament over the past two years. Calling the situation “shameful,” she said her decision to leave AAP was driven by these experiences.
In contrast, she praised PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for taking “historic decisions” for the country, including efforts related to national security and the Women’s Reservation Bill. She urged people interested in constructive politics to join the BJP.
