Sonam Wangchuk Shifted to Hospital by Delhi Police; Supporter Begins Indefinite Hunger Strike

New Delhi: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted from the Jantar Mantar protest site to a hospital by Delhi Police on Saturday after his health reportedly deteriorated during his ongoing hunger strike.

According to a statement issued by Delhi Police, Wangchuk was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure due to his worsening medical condition.

Following his removal from the protest site, Abhijeet Deepke of the CJP announced that he would begin an indefinite hunger strike in Wangchuk's place. Deepke said he has already started his fast in support of the activist and the ongoing protest.

The development comes just ahead of the planned Parliament march announced by Wangchuk and fellow protesters for Monday, July 20. Supporters have questioned the timing of the police action, as it took place before the scheduled march.

While Delhi Police maintains that the decision was based solely on Wangchuk's health condition, the incident has intensified the political debate surrounding the protest and the upcoming demonstration.
