Smriti Irani Challenges Akhilesh Yadav to Contest Outside Stronghold, Recalls 2019 Amethi Victory

New Delhi , April 18: Former Union Minister Smriti Irani launched a sharp political attack on Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav during her visit to Varanasi, challenging him to step outside his traditional stronghold and prove his electoral strength.

Addressing party workers and supporters, Irani said that if Akhilesh Yadav has the courage, he should contest elections from a seat other than his “home turf” and demonstrate his ability to secure a victory independently. She further suggested that the Samajwadi Party leader could consider contesting from Gorakhpur as a test of his political standing.

Without directly naming Rahul Gandhi, Irani referred to her own electoral achievement in the 2019 Indian general election, highlighting how she defeated the then Congress president in his stronghold of Amethi. She emphasized that her victory showcased the importance of leadership, grassroots connect, and public trust over legacy politics.

Irani’s remarks are seen as part of the बीजेपी’s continued offensive against opposition leaders in Uttar Pradesh, where political rhetoric has intensified ahead of upcoming electoral battles. Her challenge to Akhilesh Yadav adds another layer to the ongoing rivalry between major political parties in the state.

The statement has triggered fresh political debate, with leaders across parties reacting to the growing war of words in the region.
