Mamata Banerjee Vows to Hold July 21 Rally Even if Only Five Workers Attend

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday reaffirmed her commitment to holding the Trinamool Congress' annual Martyrs' Day rally on July 21, declaring that she would address the gathering even if only five party workers turned up.

Her remarks come at a time when the Trinamool Congress is facing a deep internal crisis following the rebellion led by Ritabrata Banerjee in the West Bengal Assembly and a separate faction involving Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray in Parliament.

Mamata made the statement while addressing party workers over the phone during a meeting organised by TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh under the banner "Amra Beiman Noi" (We Are Not Traitors).

Expressing confidence that the administration would grant permission for the annual event, Mamata urged loyal party workers to attend the rally.

"You be there on July 21. Even if there are only five workers, I will speak," she said. "Those with good sense should come back. The dishonest will be left neither here nor there."

Appealing for unity within the party, Mamata compared the Trinamool Congress to a mother who deserves support in difficult times.

"Your mother raised you. Today, when she is sick, won't you look after her?" she asked, drawing applause from party workers.

Without naming Ritabrata Banerjee directly, Mamata described him as "a BJP-sponsored CPM leader" and remarked that the CPI(M) had done "one good thing" by expelling him in the past.

Responding to Mamata's comments, Ritabrata Banerjee dismissed her criticism, questioning why she was spending so much time targeting him despite Kunal Ghosh allegedly describing him as "an insignificant person." The July 21 Martyrs' Day rally has long been one of the Trinamool Congress' biggest annual political events. This year's gathering is expected to serve as a major show of strength as the party seeks to counter growing internal dissent and reaffirm Mamata Banerjee's leadership.
