Senior IPS Officer Appointed as New Delhi Police Commissioner
In a significant bureaucratic development, the central government has announced the appointment of a senior IPS officer as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an official notification appointing Mr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, a 1990-batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, as the new Commissioner of Police for the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
Mr. Sharma brings over three decades of experience in law enforcement and administration. He previously served as the Director General of Police in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and has held various key positions in the Union Territory cadre.
The appointment comes at a crucial time as Delhi prepares for major upcoming events and security challenges. The new Commissioner is known for his expertise in counter-terrorism, cybercrime investigation, and community policing initiatives.
During his previous tenure, Mr. Sharma successfully implemented several citizen-centric initiatives and modernization programs in police departments. He holds a Master's degree in Public Administration and has trained at leading law enforcement academies globally.
The officer will assume charge immediately and is expected to focus on improving law and order, women's safety, and leveraging technology for better policing in the capital city.
This appointment is part of a broader administrative reshuffle in the Home Ministry. Further transfers and postings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
