Supreme Court Declines Urgent Hearing in Ram Temple Donation Misappropriation Case
Petitioner sought a court-monitored CBI-led probe into alleged financial irregularities in Ram Temple donations, but the apex court said the matter lacks the urgency required for immediate hearing.
New Delhi, June 29: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant an urgent hearing on a petition seeking an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving donations received by the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust in Ayodhya.
The petition accuses the Trust of misusing or misappropriating funds donated to the Ram Temple and calls for the registration of an FIR. It also seeks a time-bound investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
During the mentioning of the case, the petitioner urged the court to hear the matter immediately. However, the bench declined the request, questioning the urgency behind the plea.
"What is the extraordinary urgency in this matter?" the court asked, indicating that there was no compelling reason for an immediate hearing.
The Supreme Court directed that the petition would be taken up after the court reopens following its vacation, meaning the matter will not be heard immediately.
Apart from seeking an FIR, the petitioner has requested that the investigation be conducted within a fixed timeline to ensure that the case is not unnecessarily delayed. The plea also demands judicial oversight of the probe to ensure transparency and accountability.
For now, the allegations remain unverified, and the Supreme Court has not expressed any opinion on the merits of the claims. The court's decision only pertains to the request for an urgent hearing, with the petition set to be considered after the vacation period.
