Student organisation All India Students’ Association (AISA) staged a sit-in protest on Friday at Kashmere Gate Campus demanding the release of the election notification for the current academic year. Protesters alleged that despite repeated appeals over the past two weeks, the university administration has remained unresponsive and restrictive. According to AISA, campus gates were barricaded and locked, while posters highlighting the demand for elections were reportedly torn down or disallowed. The group claimed that students were prevented from entering university premises, calling the administration’s actions “apathetic” and undemocratic. The protest also comes amid criticism of the administration’s handling of student activities. AISA cited alleged mismanagement of the student fest, including delays in venue bookings for cultural events such as Ragini and inadequate funding for cultural societies preparing for upcoming fests. AISA leaders accused the administration of using student festivals as an excuse to defer the council elections, urging officials to “stop hiding behind barricades” and fulfil their electoral responsibilities. Students have reportedly been granted appointments with the registrar on Saturday and again on Tuesday at 1 pm. AISA reiterated its demand for the immediate notification of council elections, emphasising the importance of campus representation and student participation in democratic processes.
