Sonam Wangchuk Announces End to Hunger Strike, Sets Three Conditions for Government

New Delhi: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has announced that he will end his hunger strike on July 20, but only if the government fulfils at least one of the three conditions he has placed before it.

In a post on X, Wangchuk wrote that he would call off his fast if the government accepts any one of his demands. His first condition calls for the government to take responsibility for recent failures in the education system, including alleged paper leaks and other irregularities.

As another condition, Wangchuk said that if the government is unwilling to act immediately, leaders from various political parties should ensure that the issue is raised in Parliament. He added that if his health or other circumstances prevent him from participating directly, Members of Parliament from different parties should visit him and publicly assure him that they will take up the matter during the parliamentary session.

Wangchuk also raised serious concerns about his stay at Safdarjung Hospital, alleging that he is being held under "illegal detention." He claimed that authorities have severely restricted his freedom of movement within the hospital, curtailed his freedom of expression, and prevented him from communicating and interacting freely with others.

The activist's hunger strike has drawn attention to issues related to education reforms and accountability, with supporters urging the government to address his concerns.
