PM Modi Conferred Sweden’s Prestigious Royal Order of the Polar Star

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the prestigious ‘Royal Order of the Polar Star, Degree Commander Grand Cross’ by Sweden in a special ceremony held in Gothenburg, marking a significant milestone in India-Sweden relations.

The honour was presented by Her Royal Highness Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden, one of Sweden’s most distinguished royal figures. Instituted in the 18th century, the Royal Order of the Polar Star is among Sweden’s oldest and most prestigious honours and is awarded to foreign Heads of Government in recognition of exceptional public service and contributions toward strengthening ties with Sweden.

Prime Minister Modi expressed deep gratitude to Crown Princess Victoria and the people of Sweden for the recognition. He dedicated the award to the 1.4 billion people of India and described it as a symbol of the enduring friendship between India and Sweden.

Calling the recognition a reaffirmation of the historic ties and civilizational bonds shared by both countries, Modi said the honour reflects the warmth and mutual respect between the people of India and Sweden. Notably, he became the first Asian leader to receive the distinguished award.

The conferment of the Royal Order of the Polar Star is being viewed as a major moment in the growing India-Sweden Strategic Partnership. Officials said the honour reflects the shared commitment of both nations to strengthening bilateral cooperation and working together toward global peace, innovation, and prosperity.

The recognition comes amid expanding collaboration between India and Sweden in areas such as technology, sustainability, trade, innovation, and green development, further reinforcing diplomatic ties between the two countries.
