Massive Crowds Gather for Holi Celebrations in Mathura

New Delhi : Thousands of devotees and tourists from across India and abroad thronged Mathura on Friday to take part in the vibrant and spiritually charged Holi celebrations in the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

The temple town witnessed massive crowds since early morning, especially around the iconic Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and the famous Banke Bihari Temple in nearby Vrindavan. Devotees smeared each other with gulal (colored powder), danced to devotional songs, and chanted hymns dedicated to Lord Krishna.

The celebrations began days in advance, with special events such as the traditional Lathmar Holi in Barsana and Nandgaon drawing significant footfall. Authorities had made elaborate security and crowd-management arrangements, deploying additional police personnel, installing CCTV cameras, and setting up medical camps to ensure safety.

Local businesses, including sweet shops and hotels, reported a surge in visitors, giving a boost to the local economy. “Holi in Mathura is not just a festival; it is an emotion. People wait all year to experience it here,” said a devotee visiting from Delhi.

Officials confirmed that traffic diversions and special arrangements for pilgrims were in place to manage the heavy rush. Despite the large turnout, the festivities remained largely peaceful and joyous.

Holi in Mathura and its adjoining towns is considered one of the most iconic celebrations in the country, blending devotion, culture, and color in a unique spectacle that attracts global attention every year.
