New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s role in global maritime cooperation, the Indian Navy has assumed command of Combined Task Force (CTF) 154, a multinational unit under the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) dedicated to training and capacity building. The change-of-command ceremony took place on 11 February 2026 at the CMF Headquarters in Manama, Bahrain, attended by senior CMF leadership, representatives of partner nations, and Indian Navy officials. Commodore Milind M. Mokashi of the Indian Navy formally took over command, marking another milestone in India’s expanding contribution to regional and international maritime security. Established in May 2023, CTF 154 focuses on strengthening maritime capabilities across the Middle East and the wider region through structured training initiatives. Its programs emphasize Maritime Domain Awareness, Law of the Sea, Maritime Interdiction Operations, Maritime Rescue and Assistance, and Leadership Development. The task force regularly conducts Maritime Security Enhancement Training (MSET) events and multinational exercises aimed at improving operational readiness and cooperation among member nations. CTF 154 plays a critical role in addressing shared maritime challenges, including illegal trafficking, piracy, and irregular migration. India’s leadership of the task force is widely viewed as a reflection of growing confidence in the Indian Navy’s professionalism, expertise, and commitment to collective security. The development reinforces India’s position as a key partner in promoting stability, security, and collaboration in vital maritime regions.
