Hapur Administration Orders Closure of Meat, Fish and Egg Shops Ahead of Kanwar Yatra
Restrictions imposed from July 26 until further notice to ensure peaceful conduct of the annual pilgrimage and maintain law and order.
The Hapur district administration in Uttar Pradesh has ordered the closure of meat, fish and egg shops along the Kanwar Yatra route and surrounding areas to ensure the peaceful conduct of the annual pilgrimage and maintain law and order.
According to the administration, the restrictions came into effect on July 26 and will remain in place until further orders. Notices have been issued to shop owners and restaurant operators, directing them to suspend the sale of meat, fish and eggs during the pilgrimage period.
District Magistrate Kavita Meena said the decision was taken to respect the religious sentiments of Kanwar pilgrims and to maintain a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere throughout the yatra. The order applies specifically to the Kanwar route and nearby areas where devotees are expected to travel in large numbers.
The administration has warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the directive. Police teams have also intensified patrolling and surveillance across the district, while inspections of food establishments and other commercial outlets are being carried out to ensure compliance with the order.
Officials said the move is part of broader security and administrative measures introduced ahead of the Kanwar Yatra, one of North India's largest annual religious pilgrimages, during which devotees carry holy water from the Ganga to offer at Shiva temples.
The district administration has urged all business owners to cooperate with the temporary restrictions in the interest of public order and the smooth conduct of the yatra.
