Jammu, August 16, 2026: Security agencies have been placed on alert after a suspicious drone was found near the India-Pakistan International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Sunday.

The drone was recovered from Katli village in the Hiranagar sector after local residents spotted it and immediately informed the police. A team from the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) reached the location and took the drone into custody.

Authorities have launched a search operation in the surrounding area to determine whether any other suspicious objects or materials were left behind. Investigators are also trying to establish how the drone reached the area and whether it had any connection with activities across the border.

Police have not yet released any conclusive information about the drone or its intended purpose. Further details are expected after the ongoing investigation and examination of the recovered device.

Suspicious Drone Sightings Reported in July The recovery comes amid previous reports of suspected drones near the International Border in the Kathua and Samba districts.

In July, security personnel reportedly spotted a suspected Pakistani drone flying over Tarore village in the Vijaypur area of Samba. The drone turned back towards Pakistan after anti-drone systems were activated.

Around the same time, another drone was reportedly seen hovering over Chak Nalua village in Hiranagar, following which security forces conducted an extensive search operation.

The latest recovery in Katli village has heightened security concerns in the border region. Agencies are continuing their investigation to determine whether the recovered drone was linked to any cross-border activity.
