Former Uttarakhand CM Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri Passes Away at 91

Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and senior BJP leader, passed away at the age of 91 following a prolonged illness. He breathed his last at a private hospital on May 19, marking the end of a long political and public service career.

A respected political figure and former Army Major General, Khanduri served as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand twice and played a key role in state politics. Beyond state leadership, he also served as the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways in the government led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, where he was known for his contributions to infrastructure development and highway expansion.

Leaders across political circles expressed grief over his demise. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described Khanduri’s death as an “irreparable loss to public life,” acknowledging his contributions to governance and public welfare.

Khanduri was widely regarded for his disciplined leadership style, shaped by his military background, and remained an influential figure in Indian politics for decades. His passing marks the loss of a veteran statesman who played a significant role in shaping Uttarakhand’s political landscape.
