Delhi Named the World's Cheapest City for Dating and Daily Living, But Trails in Salaries and Quality of Life

New Delhi: Delhi has been ranked as the world's most affordable city for dating and everyday expenses in the 'Mapping the World's Prices 2026' report by Deutsche Bank. The study assessed 69 global cities based on consumer prices, salaries, housing costs, and overall quality of life.

According to the report, an affordable date—including dining and leisure activities—costs an average of $103 (around ₹9,920) in Delhi, making it the cheapest city in the world for such outings. In contrast, Geneva, Switzerland, is the most expensive, with the same experience costing around $475 (approximately ₹45,750).

The report also highlights Delhi's relatively low housing costs. The average price of residential property in the city centre is $2,465 (around ₹2.37 lakh) per square metre, placing Delhi 65th among the 69 cities surveyed. While property prices have fallen 9.8% in dollar terms over the past decade, they have rebounded by 15.7% since 2019.

Despite its affordability, Delhi did not feature among the top 50 cities for quality of life. The rankings considered factors such as purchasing power, public safety, healthcare, housing affordability, pollution, climate, and commuting time. The findings suggest that although the city offers low living costs, challenges related to income levels and urban infrastructure continue to affect residents' overall quality of life.
