Andhra Pradesh Reports 12 COVID-19 Cases and Four Deaths; Health Authorities on Alert
Most infections were reported from Kadapa district, while officials say all four deceased patients had serious pre-existing health conditions.
Andhra Pradesh has reported 12 COVID-19 cases and four deaths between June 26 and July 16, 2026, prompting health authorities to step up surveillance across the state.
State Health Commissioner G. Veerapandian said all four patients who died had serious underlying medical conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, and kidney disease. Three of the fatalities were reported from Kadapa district, while one occurred in Kakinada.
The state's first COVID-19 case of 2026 was detected in Kadapa on June 26. Between July 1 and July 16, 11 additional infections were recorded. Health officials said two of the cases were linked to close contact with infected individuals.
Kadapa accounted for the highest number of infections with eight cases, followed by Guntur (2), while Visakhapatnam and Kakinada reported one case each. Officials clarified that the infections originated from different mandals and were not part of a single cluster.
Between June 26 and July 15, Andhra Pradesh conducted 67 COVID-19 tests, of which 11 returned positive. The twelfth case was identified at the Christian Medical College in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Currently, three patients are in home isolation, two are undergoing hospital treatment, and three have recovered and been discharged.
Across India, 339 COVID-19 cases have been reported since July 1. Kerala recorded the highest number with 115 cases, followed by Karnataka (64), Maharashtra (43), Tamil Nadu (39), Delhi (18), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (18), and Rajasthan (12).
Health officials have urged the public to remain cautious and follow preventive measures, particularly vulnerable individuals with underlying health conditions.
