Poland Says PM Modi Influenced Putin During Ukraine War
Polish minister says PM Modi helped discourage Russia from using tactical nuclear weapons and urged India to continue promoting diplomacy.
Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister, Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski, has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a significant role in discouraging Russian President Vladimir Putin from using tactical nuclear weapons during the Ukraine conflict in late 2022.
Speaking to reporters, Bartoszewski said PM Modi is among the few world leaders who can influence President Putin because of India's long-standing ties with Russia.
He said India could continue using its diplomatic influence to encourage a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Polish minister also backed India's approach to the West Asia crisis, saying New Delhi's position is understandable given its energy security needs and emphasis on diplomacy.
His remarks come weeks after President Vladimir Putin praised India's independent foreign policy and reaffirmed the strategic partnership between Moscow and New Delhi.
