Hundreds Arrested in France After Violent PSG Champions League Celebrations

More than 400 people were arrested across France after celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) UEFA Champions League victory turned violent. The French club defeated Arsenal in a dramatic final, sparking massive celebrations that soon escalated into clashes with police.

Thousands of officers were deployed in Paris to manage crowds as unrest disrupted public transport services, including buses and trains. Supporters lit fireworks and flares, while police used tear gas to disperse crowds in central parts of the city.

Videos from the capital showed electric bikes set on fire, roads blocked, and shopfronts damaged. The Champs-Élysées became a major gathering point as jubilant fans celebrated PSG’s penalty shootout triumph.

French authorities reported damage to vehicles, businesses, and public property during the unrest. According to the Interior Ministry, hundreds of arrests were made, with the majority taking place in Paris.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez condemned the violence, calling the incidents “absolutely unacceptable.” Despite the disturbances, PSG players are expected to take part in a victory parade near the Eiffel Tower, followed by a reception hosted by President Emmanuel Macron.

The incidents come a year after PSG’s previous European title celebrations in 2025, which were also marred by deadly violence.
