Government May End Toll Tax Exemptions for Several Vehicles on National Highways

Travellers on national highways across the country may soon witness a major change in the toll tax system. The government is reportedly reviewing the category of vehicles that are currently exempt from paying toll charges at toll plazas.

If implemented, the proposed changes could result in several government vehicles and officials paying toll tax, ending a long-standing exemption that allowed them to travel free of charge on national highways.

According to reports, a high-level committee constituted by the government has submitted recommendations to the concerned ministry, suggesting a review of the existing toll exemption policy. The move is aimed at reassessing the list of vehicles currently enjoying toll-free access and ensuring greater transparency and uniformity in the system.

At present, certain categories of government vehicles and officials are exempt from toll payments. However, the proposed review could lead to a significant policy shift, impacting how these exemptions are granted in the future.

The government is yet to make an official announcement regarding the implementation of the recommendations.
