Trump Slashes US Tariffs to 15% on Key Agricultural, Industrial Imports
Temporary tariff relief aimed at boosting investment, lowering equipment costs till 2027
US President Donald Trump has announced a major reduction in tariffs on selected agricultural products and industrial equipment, cutting duties from 25% to 15%. The temporary tariff relief will remain in effect until December 2027 and is aimed at supporting key sectors of the American economy.
The move comes amid ongoing global economic and geopolitical tensions, with the White House stating that the decision is intended to encourage investment, strengthen domestic manufacturing, and reduce costs for businesses and farmers.
According to the announcement, the tariff reduction will apply to a wide range of agricultural machinery, including combines, harvesters, and other farm equipment, as well as industrial tools such as bulldozers and forklifts imported from countries with trade agreements with the United States.
The Trump administration said lower tariffs would help farmers and agricultural producers purchase equipment at reduced costs, while also encouraging companies to expand production capacity and invest in manufacturing.
In addition to the tariff cut, the administration unveiled a separate incentive scheme to promote the use of domestically produced steel and aluminium. Under the plan, foreign manufacturers may qualify for an even lower 10% tariff if at least 85% of the steel or aluminium used in imported capital equipment originates from the United States.
However, India is unlikely to benefit immediately from the revised tariff rates, as reports suggest the concessions primarily apply to nations with existing trade agreements with the US.
