Shreya Ghoshal Hints at Taking a Break from Singing, Speaks Against Lip-Syncing on Stage

Popular playback singer Shreya Ghoshal has hinted that she sometimes feels like taking a break from singing, especially amid ongoing discussions about artists stepping away from playback music. Her comments come shortly after singer Arijit Singh announced his decision to retire from playback singing earlier this year.

In a recent interview with ABP News, Shreya spoke candidly about her views on live performances and the responsibilities of artists on stage. The award-winning singer emphasized that performing live is an essential part of her identity as a musician.

She strongly criticized the idea of lip-syncing during stage performances. According to Shreya, she would never want to rely on lip-syncing in front of a live audience. She said that if a day ever comes when she has to lip-sync on stage, she would rather stop singing altogether.

Commitment to Live Singing

The singer explained that as long as her voice supports her and she continues her regular practice, she will always prefer performing live for audiences. For Shreya, the connection between an artist and listeners during a live performance is irreplaceable.

She also praised Arijit Singh’s decision to step away from playback singing, describing it as a “brave choice.” According to her, Arijit is deeply connected to music and creates it purely for happiness rather than fame or rewards.

Responsibility of Performers Shreya also highlighted the responsibility that performers carry while entertaining audiences. She said that artists may go through personal struggles in their private lives, but those emotions should not affect their stage performance.

Music, she noted, often provides comfort and inspiration to people. Audiences attend concerts to experience joy and escape from their daily worries, and artists should honor that expectation.

A Celebrated Musical Journey

Born in Murshidabad, West Bengal, Shreya Ghoshal is one of the most successful and respected playback singers in India. Over her career, she has recorded more than 3,000 songs in multiple languages including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

She has received numerous awards, including five National Film Awards and several Filmfare Awards. Shreya began her journey in the music industry after winning the singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma, and she made her Bollywood debut with the song “Bairi Piya” in the film Devdas (2002).

Even though she occasionally feels the urge to take a break, Shreya Ghoshal’s dedication to live music and authentic performances continues to inspire millions of fans around the world.
