A Welcome Relief for Millions: Petrol and Diesel Prices Cut Across India
As fuel costs fall for the first time in over two years, commuters, families and small businesses can expect some relief in their daily expenses.
In a move that is expected to bring relief to millions of Indians, fuel prices have been reduced for the first time in more than two years. Private fuel retailer Nayara Energy has cut the price of petrol by ₹5 per litre and diesel by ₹3 per litre across its retail outlets, with the revised rates coming into effect from July 1, 2026.
For daily commuters, cab and auto-rickshaw drivers, transport operators, farmers and small business owners, the price cut could help ease the burden of rising household and operating costs. Lower fuel prices may also reduce transportation expenses, offering indirect benefits to consumers over time.
The reduction comes after international crude oil prices softened as tensions in the Middle East eased, leading to greater stability in global energy markets. It is the first retail fuel price cut by any company in India in more than two years.
Backed by Russia's Rosneft, Nayara Energy recently crossed the milestone of operating more than 7,000 fuel stations across the country, making it India's largest private-sector fuel retailer. The company said the price reduction reflects the recent decline in global oil prices and aims to pass on the benefit to customers.
While public sector oil marketing companies have not yet announced similar reductions, the move by Nayara Energy is likely to be closely watched by consumers and the fuel industry alike.
