Hospitality Sector Urges Government to Ensure PNG Supply

The Indian Hotel & Restaurant Association has appealed to authorities to ensure an uninterrupted supply of Piped Natural Gas (PING) to the hospitality sector, warning that a complete shutdown of gas supply could severely disrupt hotel and restaurant operations.

In a letter issued by the association, the industry acknowledged the difficult global situation affecting energy availability. The association stated that restaurants and hotels may be able to manage with up to 25 percent reduction in PNG supply, but a 100 percent curtailment or total stoppage would make it practically impossible for establishments to continue functioning.

The hospitality sector relies heavily on PNG for cooking and daily operations. Any sudden halt in supply could directly impact thousands of businesses and the livelihoods of workers employed in hotels and restaurants.

The association has therefore requested authorities to intervene and ensure that the hospitality industry continues to receive at least a minimum supply of PNG, allowing restaurants and hotels to operate smoothly.

The letter was signed by Vijay K Shetty, who expressed hope that the government will consider the request and take necessary steps to prevent disruption in the sector and protect employment in the hospitality industry.
