Green Hydrogen Prices Hit Record Low, Offshore Wind Key to Energy Push: Joshi

Union Minister Shri R.K. Singh Joshi underscored India’s accelerating clean energy transition, noting that green hydrogen prices have fallen to a historic low of ₹279 per kg, while green ammonia prices have reached ₹49.75 per kg. The sharp decline signals growing cost competitiveness and momentum for India’s National Hydrogen Mission.

Emphasizing the role of offshore wind, Joshi said the sector can deliver high-quality renewable power to emerging coastal industrial zones and green hydrogen clusters. Such integration, he added, would strengthen energy security and enhance industrial competitiveness, particularly for energy-intensive industries.

Highlighting progress at scale, Joshi stated that India’s installed non-fossil fuel capacity has crossed 272 GW, including over 141 GW of solar and 55 GW of wind. In the current financial year alone, India has added more than 35 GW of solar capacity and 4.61 GW of wind capacity, reflecting sustained growth in renewables deployment.

With clear policy direction and expanding international partnerships, Joshi concluded that offshore wind is poised to become a central pillar of India’s clean, reliable, and self-reliant energy future. He also pointed to offshore wind as a promising area of collaboration between India and the United Kingdom under the Vision 2035 framework, reinforcing bilateral efforts in sustainable energy and technology cooperation.
