Sony Announces Global PS5 Price Hike Amid Rising Costs

Sony has announced a fresh global price hike for its flagship PlayStation 5 lineup, citing rising component costs and continued pressure in the global economic environment. The revised prices will come into effect from April 2, 2026.
In the United States, both PS5 variants will see a $100 increase, taking the standard edition to $649.99 and the digital edition to $599.99. The premium PS5 Pro will witness a steeper hike of $150, pushing its price to $899.99. Additionally, the PlayStation Portal remote player will also become more expensive.
Sony said the decision was taken after “careful evaluation” of global market conditions, including increased costs of components such as memory chips. The company emphasized that the move is aimed at maintaining product quality and innovation despite economic challenges.

Currently, the PS5 Digital Edition is priced at around ₹49,990, while the disc version costs ₹54,990. A price revision—potentially steeper than last year’s ₹5,000 hike—is anticipated if global pressures persist.
There are also indications that the PS5 Pro could soon launch in India, after being spotted on certification platforms, especially with major gaming releases expected later this year.
