Delhi Launches First Hydrogen-Powered Shuttle Bus Service

In a major step towards sustainable urban transport, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched its first hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service in the national capital. The service officially began operations on May 15 and will cover the Central Vista area, marking a significant push towards clean energy mobility.

The hydrogen-powered shuttle service will operate between Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth Metro Station, offering commuters an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional fuel-based transport. The initiative comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption amid rising global tensions and concerns over energy security.

According to DMRC, the hydrogen bus has been provided by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), while the vehicle was developed by Tata Motors. Notably, Tata Motors had delivered the hydrogen-powered bus to IOCL in 2023 as part of India’s green mobility initiatives.

Hydrogen-powered vehicles are considered a cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel-run transport, as they emit only water vapor and significantly reduce carbon emissions, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for urban transportation.
