West Indies Hold Their Nerve to Edge Past Scotland in Women's T20 World Cup Thriller

West Indies survived a spirited fightback from Scotland to register a dramatic seven-run victory in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 on Thursday, making it two wins from two matches in the tournament.

The Caribbean side appeared headed for a modest total after Scotland's disciplined bowling restricted their powerful batting line-up for most of the innings. However, veteran Stafanie Taylor produced a sensational late blitz, smashing an unbeaten 47 off just 19 balls to propel West Indies to 153/6.

Scotland responded fearlessly, racing to 51 runs inside five overs through Katherine Fraser and Darcey Carter. But West Indies captain Hayley Matthews turned the tide with two crucial wickets in a game-changing over, triggering a dramatic collapse that left Scotland reeling at 58/4.

Despite the setback, Darcey Carter stood tall with a determined 59 off 62 deliveries, keeping Scotland in the contest until the final stages. Her resilient partnership with Ailsa Lister reignited hopes of a famous upset.

With the match hanging in the balance, Aaliyah Alleyne delivered the decisive blow, removing Carter, Lister and Kirstie Gordon in a superb penultimate over. West Indies eventually held their nerve in a tense finish to restrict Scotland to 146/6.

Matthews starred with figures of 3/19, while Alleyne claimed 3/11 and Afy Fletcher chipped in with 2/16 as the Caribbean side strengthened their position in Group B.

The victory lifts West Indies to second place in the standings, while Scotland will take plenty of positives despite falling just short in a closely fought contest.

Result: West Indies beat Scotland by 7 runs.
