The FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout stage produced thrilling action on Wednesday as England, Belgium, and the United States secured their places in the Round of 16.

England came from behind to defeat DR Congo 2-1 in Atlanta. The African side shocked the Three Lions with an early goal from Brian Cipenga in the seventh minute, but captain Harry Kane rescued England with two late goals in the 75th and 86th minutes. The victory sets up a Round of 16 clash against Mexico.

Belgium also staged a dramatic comeback to beat Senegal 3-2 after extra time. Senegal looked in control after goals from Habib Diarra and Ismaila Sarr gave them a 2-0 lead. However, Romelu Lukaku scored in the 86th minute before Youri Tielemans equalised three minutes later. In extra time, Belgium were awarded a VAR-assisted penalty, which Tielemans converted to complete a remarkable turnaround. The Red Devils will now face the United States in Seattle.

Co-hosts USA defeated Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-0 despite playing with 10 men for the final half-hour. Folarin Balogun opened the scoring just before halftime but was sent off in the 64th minute following a VAR review. The Americans sealed the victory in the 82nd minute when Malik Tillman curled home a brilliant free-kick.

With these results, England, Belgium, and the United States continue their World Cup journeys as the race for the quarter-finals intensifies.
