India will look to clinch the three-match ODI series when they face England in the second One-Day International at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Thursday, following a convincing victory in the series opener.
The visitors comfortably chased down England's total of 259 in the first ODI, reaching the target in the 46th over. Captain Shubman Gill anchored the innings with an unbeaten 80 before retiring hurt, while Axar Patel and Washington Sundar contributed crucial half-centuries to guide India to victory. Earlier, Axar starred with the ball, claiming four wickets to help restrict England to a modest total.
There were concerns over the fitness of both Gill and fast bowler Gurnoor Brar after the opening match. However, reports suggest that Gill has recovered and is expected to lead the side in the second ODI. Brar's availability remains uncertain, and if he is ruled out, either Prince Yadav or Arshdeep Singh could replace him in the playing XI.
India will also be hoping for improved performances from senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who had disappointing outings in the first ODI. Rohit scored 11, while Kohli managed only five runs before being dismissed.
With momentum on their side, India will aim to secure the series, while England will be desperate to bounce back and keep the contest alive.
