Tejashwi Yadav Returns Government Security After Lalu-Rabri Z+ Cover Withdrawal
RJD alleges political vendetta as Tejashwi Yadav joins Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi in rejecting state-provided security after major security changes in Bihar.
In a significant political development in Bihar, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has returned his government-provided security following the withdrawal of Z+ security cover for former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi. Tejashwi’s decision comes amid mounting criticism from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which has accused the Bihar government of targeting opposition leaders.
Earlier, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi had also returned their official security after a review led to the removal of their Z+ category protection. The state government reassigned responsibility for their security to Bihar Police personnel, a move that the RJD described as politically motivated and disrespectful to the stature of the senior leaders.
Reacting strongly to the development, Tejashwi Yadav expressed displeasure over the government’s decision and termed the move an act driven by political bias. According to RJD leaders, the reduction in security raises concerns over the safety of opposition figures in the state.
RJD spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav stated that after Lalu and Rabri, Tejashwi also decided to return the security provided by the government in protest. He alleged that the ruling administration was deliberately targeting key opposition leaders and compromising their safety.
However, the Bihar government has defended the decision, saying the changes were made following a routine security review conducted by agencies based on established protocols and threat assessments.
Notably, Tejashwi Yadav’s security category remains unchanged. He continues to be entitled to Y+ security due to his role as Leader of Opposition, a position considered equivalent to a Cabinet Minister. Given his frequent public appearances, rallies, and district tours, authorities have retained his existing security arrangements.
Meanwhile, Tej Pratap Yadav has also reportedly faced a reduction in security cover. Previously protected under the Y category, his security has now been scaled down to a single Personal Security Officer (PSO) or bodyguard.
