Suvendu Adhikari Sworn In as West Bengal Chief Minister, BJP Ends 15-Year TMC Rule

In a dramatic political turnaround in West Bengal, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the new Chief Minister of the state on Friday. The oath was administered by the Governor during a high-profile ceremony held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with several senior BJP leaders and party workers.

Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also invited to the swearing-in ceremony as part of official protocol. Adhikari had defeated Banerjee from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in the recently concluded elections.

Alongside Suvendu Adhikari, BJP leaders Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik and Shankar Ghosh also took oath as ministers in the new cabinet.

Amit Shah had arrived in Kolkata on May 8, where Suvendu Adhikari was elected as the BJP legislative party leader. Following the announcement, Adhikari met Governor R.N. Ravi and submitted letters of support from BJP MLAs to formally stake claim to form the government.

The BJP secured a landslide victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections by winning 207 seats, while the Trinamool Congress was reduced to 80 seats, marking the end of its 15-year rule in the state.
