Noida Labour Unrest Turns Violent, Over 300 Detained; Wage Dispute Triggers Statewide Alert

Tensions flared in Noida as a labour protest over wage-related grievances escalated into violence on its fourth day, prompting authorities to detain more than 300 individuals and issue a statewide alert across Uttar Pradesh. The unrest, which began as a peaceful demonstration by industrial workers demanding better wages and working conditions, took a sharp turn after negotiations failed to yield immediate results.

According to officials, the protest intensified as large groups of workers gathered on key roads, blocking traffic and raising slogans against alleged delays in wage revisions. The situation deteriorated when sections of the crowd turned aggressive, leading to clashes with police and damage to public property. In response, law enforcement agencies intervened to control the situation, resulting in the detention of over 300 protesters to restore order.

The root cause of the agitation lies in long-standing dissatisfaction among workers over low wages and delayed revisions in minimum pay standards. As the protest gained momentum, the government faced mounting pressure to act swiftly to prevent further escalation.

Taking note of the seriousness of the situation, the administration led by Yogi Adityanath moved quickly to address the issue. A high-powered committee was constituted to assess the demands and recommend solutions. Based on its findings, the government announced an interim wage hike of approximately 21 percent, aiming to calm tensions and address workers’ concerns.

Officials stated that the situation is now under control, with security tightened across sensitive areas. The government has assured that workers’ welfare remains a priority, while also warning that any form of violence or disruption of public order will be dealt with strictly.
