Election Commission Orders Re-Poll in Falta Assembly Constituency

The Election Commission of India has ordered a complete re-poll in the Falta Assembly constituency of West Bengal following reports of serious irregularities during voting held on April 29, 2026.

According to the Commission, violations of democratic procedures were observed at multiple polling stations, prompting the decision to conduct fresh elections across all 285 polling booths in the constituency.

The re-poll is scheduled to take place on May 21, 2026, with voting set to begin at 7:00 AM and continue until 6:00 PM. Authorities have assured that enhanced security arrangements and strict monitoring mechanisms will be in place to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful voting process.

The counting of votes for the Falta Assembly seat will be carried out on May 24, 2026, as per the revised schedule.

The decision is significant as the constituency is witnessing a closely contested political battle, with major parties like the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vying for victory.

The Election Commission reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that voters can exercise their franchise without fear or disruption.
