Chief Minister announces preparations for Haridwar Kumbh 2027; underscores impact of UCC and mining policy
**New Delhi: **Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday attended the Hindustan Shikhar Samagam – Uttarakhand 2026 held at a hotel in Malsi, Dehradun, where he outlined the state government’s major policy decisions and development priorities.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the government has been working consistently in accordance with public sentiment and expectations. He emphasized that over the past four years, the administration has taken what he described as “historic decisions” aimed at strengthening governance, preserving cultural heritage, and ensuring social stability.
Dhami highlighted the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the anti-conversion law, and the abolition of the Madrasa Board as landmark measures. He stated that these steps were intended to safeguard Uttarakhand’s cultural and spiritual identity. The Chief Minister also pointed to the introduction of strict anti-cheating and anti-riot laws, along with firm action against encroachments carried out in the name of religious sites, as part of efforts to establish Uttarakhand as a peaceful state.
Recalling the 2022 Assembly elections, Dhami noted that the promise of implementing the UCC had received strong public support. Following the formation of the government, the first Cabinet approved the creation of a committee for its rollout, making Uttarakhand the first state in India to implement the code.
The Chief Minister also announced that preparations are underway for the grand Kumbh Mela scheduled to be held in Haridwar in 2027. He said he has personally chaired more than ten review meetings related to the event. Dhami acknowledged the Central Government’s release of ₹500 crore for the preparations and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Emphasizing the government’s guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas,” Dhami asserted that the administration is committed to inclusive development while taking strict action against attempts to alter the demographic balance of the state through unlawful means.
Highlighting economic progress, Dhami said the new mining policy has significantly boosted state revenues, with Uttarakhand recording annual earnings exceeding ₹1,200 crore over the past two years, compared to approximately ₹400 crore earlier. He added that the Centre has provided special incentive assistance of ₹100 crore each year for two consecutive years in recognition of reforms in the mining sector.
During the event, the Chief Minister also conferred the Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman on several distinguished individuals. Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, MLA Khajan Das, Hindustan Editor-in-Chief Shashi Shekhar, and other dignitaries were present at the programme.
