BJP Sweeps Gujarat Local Body Elections, Retains Dominance Across All 15 Municipal Corporations

Amid the ongoing Assembly elections in five states, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has delivered a powerful performance in the Gujarat local body elections, further strengthening its political hold in the state.

The BJP has not only emerged as politically “self-reliant” through these elections but has also successfully retained control over all 15 municipal corporations, including the four politically crucial major cities—Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot—as well as nine newly formed municipal corporations.

The party also registered a strong comeback in Surat, the city that had served as the launchpad for the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) entry into Gujarat politics during the 2021 elections. This time, AAP suffered a major setback and even lost the position of Leader of Opposition.

In the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP’s campaign in Gujarat was led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. State BJP President Jagdish Vishwakarma, along with State Organization General Secretary Ratnakar, played a key role in implementing several strategic organizational experiments during the elections.

The BJP’s electoral strategy proved highly successful, especially in Vadodara, where despite strong internal resistance, the party replaced 44 sitting councillors and still managed to maintain its 2021-level performance. Out of 76 seats, BJP won an impressive 69 seats, while Congress secured 6 seats and 1 seat went to an independent candidate.

This decisive victory once again underlines BJP’s unmatched organizational strength and electoral dominance in Gujarat.
