Anurag Thakur Slams Priyanka Gandhi Over Remarks on IIT Madras Director
BJP MP accuses Congress leader of insulting a respected academic during debate on education reforms
A political war of words erupted in Parliament after BJP MP Anurag Thakur strongly criticised Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over her remarks targeting IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti.
During the debate on education reforms, Priyanka Gandhi referred to Kamakoti as a "gomutra expert," drawing sharp objections from the BJP.
Responding to the remarks, Anurag Thakur accused the Congress leader of insulting one of India's most respected academicians. Defending Kamakoti's academic credentials, Thakur said the IIT Madras Director was a distinguished scientist and educator whose contributions deserved respect rather than political ridicule.
In a pointed attack, Thakur remarked that "even the combined educational qualifications of your family cannot match his academic achievements," escalating the confrontation in the House.
The BJP leader further alleged that the Congress has a history of targeting and disrespecting scholars, scientists, and educational institutions for political reasons. He said such comments undermine the dignity of India's academic community.
The exchange added to the heated atmosphere in Parliament, where discussions on education reforms and the anti-paper leak legislation witnessed repeated confrontations between the ruling NDA and the Opposition.
